Parents, Relatives & Partners
Of
Survivors of Sexual Abuse
Who is the group for?
This group is for Parents of survivors of sexual abuse.
How often will there be a group?
We will run the PRP group 3 times in each year. Each time, the group will last for 6 weeks and each weekly session will last for 2 hours.
We need a minimum of 5 people to run the group so it is important to let us know as soon as possible if you are interested.
A typical six-week programme.
PRP group sessions are likely to include:
- Information on Sexual Abuse
- Information and advice about what can happen when someone wants to disclose to the Police or Family Protection Unit
- Dealing with anger
You will also have the opportunity to talk with others in the group who are picking up the pieces after someone close to them has disclosed sexual abuse.
Get in touch
Maureen Magee is the group contact. She will arrange to meet with you for an information session about this group, and other services provided by Safe Space.
You can then decide if the group is for you.
Taking care of yourself
Remember it is important that you take care of your own feelings throughout this difficult time. The disclosure of sexual abuse by someone you care about can have a davastating impact on your emotional well-being.
You are not alone
It is estimated that 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls will have survived some form of sexual abuse before reaching the age of 18.
