Some questions you may have, and answers that might help:
Q: Can I get in touch myself?
A: Yes, we encourage young people to refer themselves; you can phone, text or e-mail and arrange to have an initial chat and get more information before you decide anything.
Q: Can I bring someone along with me the first time?
A: Yes, you can bring a friend or family member and choose to see the counsellor with them if you feel comfortable doing that.
Q: Will I have to talk about the abuse?
A: No, you don't HAVE to talk about anything you don't want to, in counselling sessions. It is totally up to you what we discuss. You may want to talk about loads of other important things in your life such as relationships, family, friends, losses, how to cope better with problems....
Q: If I've been abused does it have to have been reported and gone to court for me to be able to come to Safe Space?
A: No, you can come here to talk about any ways in which experience of abuse has affected you and your life
Q: How many sessions will I have to have?
A: That is up to you, what you need and what is helpful for you right now. Some people come for just a few times to get a "taste" of what counselling feels like; others comes for a long time, or stop after a while and come back if and when they need more.
